Silverthread Co-founder Carliss Baldwin to Give Keynote Address at 38th SMS Annual Conference

The Strategic Management Society (SMS) invited Carliss Baldwin to be the closing keynote speaker at the Amsterdam extension of its annual conference on September 21, 2018, entitled Navigating the Platform Business Model: Strategies, Challenges and Best Practices. Carliss Baldwin’s keynote address will conclude the day’s discussion on how to successfully operate the platform business model.


About Carliss Baldwin

Carliss Baldwin is the William L. White Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School and the Chairman and co-founder of Silverthread, a software economics company. She has experience and expertise in platform businesses from academic, strategic, and commercial perspectives. She has conducted extensive research on platform businesses specifically around the process of design and the impact of design architecture on firm strategy, platforms, and business ecosystems. Carliss has taught an MBA required-curriculum course in corporate finance and an elective course on mergers and acquisitions at Harvard Business School. She has written over 50 cases and notes for MBA and executive classes, and in 2014, her case on Roche’s Acquisition of Genentech was named the best case in Finance, Accounting and Control by the Case Centre. She is the co-author of Design Rules, Volume 1: The Power of Modularity and she has been published in a variety of leading journals including Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Management Science, Research Policy and Harvard Business Review. Carliss has won multiple awards for research and holds an S.B. in economics from MIT, and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard Business School.
