Carliss Baldwin
Co-founder and Advisor
Dr. Carliss Y. Baldwin is a Professor Emerita at Harvard Business School, where she has spent decades studying the design of complex systems, modularity, and business strategy. She holds degrees from MIT and Harvard, including a Doctorate in Business Administration.

Her research focuses on how modular design impacts product development, innovation, and business performance. She co-authored Design Rules, Volume 1: The Power of Modularity, a foundational book that explains how modularity can increase flexibility and reduce costs in complex systems. Her work has influenced industries ranging from software and manufacturing to finance and healthcare.
Dr. Baldwin has advised companies, governments, and research institutions on the economic impact of system design. As a Co-Founder and Advisor at Silverthread, she applies her expertise to help organizations understand and manage the long-term costs and benefits of software architecture decisions.
